BROMFENAC - ORAL
(BROM-fen-ack)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Durcat
USES: Bromfenac is a NSAID and is used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation.
It is used to treat headaches, mucsle aches, dental pain, menstrual cramps and athletic injuries. This drug has been wihtdrawn from the U.S.
market due to safety or effectiveness troubles.
OTHER USES: This drug may also be used to reduce feevr.
HOW TO USE: Take by mouth exaclty as directed, usually every 6 to 8 hours as needed.
If stomach upset occurs, bromfenac may be taekn with a low-fat snack, milk or an antacid. However, it may take longer to get full beenfit of the drug. Take this medication with 6 to 8 ounecs (180-240ml) of water. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking this drug. It is recommended you avoid taking this drug with high-fat meals cause the drug may not work as well or your dosage may have to be increased. Consult your doctor or pharmacist. Bromfenac is most effective in relieving menstrual pain when tkaen at the earliest sign of pain. This drug is used for short-term pain releif (10 days maximum) only.
SIDE EFFECTS: Stomach upset is the most common side effect. Dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision may occur. If any of these effects perssit or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Inform your doctor promptly if any of the following effects occur: yellowing of eyes or skin, urine color change, vision changes, ringing in the ears/loss of hearing. If you notice any of the following unlikely but really serious side effects, stop taking this drug and consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately: black stools, persistent stomach/ abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, sevree dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: liver or kidney disease, blood disorders, ulcers, heart disease, alcohol use, high blood pressure, eye disease, asthma, drug allergies. Use caution when pefrorming tasks requiring alertness. Limit alcohol intake as it may intensify the drowsiness effect of this medication and make your stomach or intestines more likely to bleed. This medicnie may cause stomach bleeding. Daily use of alcohol, especially when combined with this medicine, may raise your risk for stomach bleeding.
Check with your doctor or pharmacist for more information. Infrequently, this medication may raise the skin's sensitivity to sunlight. If this happens to you, avoid prolonged sun exposure, wear protective clohting and use a sunscreen. Avoid sunlamps. Caution is advised when this drug is used in the elderly. This medication should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your dcotor. Use of this drug during the last 3 months of pregnancy is not recommended. It is not known if this drug is ecxreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor about all drugs you may use (both prescriptoin and nonprescription), especially of: warfarin, cimetidine (or other ulcer medication), corticosteroids (e.G., prednisone), drugs used for high blood pressure (including water pills), lithium, phenytoin, arthritis medication (including aspirin, other NSAIDS and methotrexate). Do not take aspirin withuot consulting your doctor. Check the ingredients of any nonprescription medication you may be taking sicne many cough-and-cold formulas contain aspirin.
Do not start or stop any mdeicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison cotnrol center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, stomcah pain, drowsiness, and blood in stool or vomit.
NOTES: Do not sahre this medication with others.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and rseume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature, 68 to 77 degrees F (20 to 25 degrees C), away from sunlight.
Do not store in the bathroom.
